Annual conference of the EuroRegional Projects - in 2004 hosted by CORVETTE.
Directorate Energy and Transport (DG TREN, former DG VII) of the European Commission. This
directorate is, among other tasks, supporting the Euro-Regional projects CORVETTE, VIKING, ARTS, CENTRICO and SERTI.
TEN-T Trans-European Network for Transport - Cross fertilization activities.
ERTICO is a public-private partnership organisation for intelligent transport systems (ITS) in Europe.
Intelligent Transport Society of Japan.
Intelligent Transport Society of America.
The TMC Forum is a voluntary organisation of private companies, broadcasters and governmental ministries with the intention to support and
coordinate the implementation and support the operation of TMC services and TMC related products. It is also set to encourage further development.
Northern Europe´s traffic is often disrupted by harsh weather conditions. To better manage the impact of weather on traffic and to take advantage of new technologies to ease other
traffic-related problems, the VIKING project coordinates national and bilateral traffic management schemes and implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in Scandinavia (Denmark,
Sweden, Finland and Norway) and five regions in northern Germany. The cooperation in VIKING will ensure homogenity and continuity of services for road users, and enable interoperability for
mobile equipment including equipment for automatic road user fee collection. VIKING is also an important tool to spread knowledge about these systems and services between the countries and to speed up
the implementation process for the Trans-European Network for Transport (TEN-T).
ARTS (Advanced Road Traffic in South-west) is a Euro-Regional project funded by the European Comission (DGVII-Ten-T budget). It has started on November 1997. It is the first
approach from Public Traffic Administrations in Spain (DGT and DT), France and Portugal to study how the coordination of traffic telematic installation projects at regional, bilateral and
multilateral levels can improve the continuity and quality of the services to be offered to the users of the roads.
The regions in the centre of Europe felt the necessity to coordinate their implementation on a higher level than the regional one. This is due to the very
dense motorway network in this area with similar congestion problems in all regions and high flows of cross-border trips. Therefore the Central European regions started up the CENTRICO
initiative. CENTRICO stands for "Central European region transport telematics implementation coordination" project.
There are very heavy traffic flows between France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Spain, particularly during the summer and winter holidays. To manage these flows in a sustainable way, the SERTI
partners are currently developing traffic management and user information services in southern Europe using Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).Work on the project is
coordinated to ensure that services are implemented both regionally and internationally. This will maintain the continuity and quality of the services available to the road users of the
Trans-European-Network for Transport (TEN-T) in the Southern European region.
STREETWISE is part of a European Commission supported initiative to improve travel and transport across Europe. The road authorities of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and
Ireland are working together to improve travel and provide high quality information on the most important roads in the STREETWISE area. STREETWISE development and cooperation will
allow travellers to make more informed decisions about their routes and what they can expect during their journeys.
The Bavarian R&D project BayernInfo demonstrates a multi-modal service for road information, rail information, door to door planning (including air, rail, bus, tram, subway and ferry information), Bavarian wide tourist and bike information and personal traveller assistance. The Bavarian service focused on the traffic information (real time and forecast),
road works and weather information (presently only available in German) to pave the way for the data exchange with European added valued information for the citizen.
Swiss Traffic Information Service focussing on private traffic and public
transport.
The R&D project
MOBINET demonstrates multi-modal traffic management, innovative traffic technologies and advanced mobility services in order to reduce
the traffic problems and increase traffic safety in the conurbation area of Munich. Also environmental aspects
like reduction of air pollution are part of the project activities to improve the daily life of the citizen. Another goal
of this project is the further improvement of the research centre for transport and traffic expertise in Munich in order to make this knowledge available to other regions. All goals in common is the main issue of compatible
and transferable organisational and technical solutions.
